5 wonder foods that make you cycle faster

The right diet is essential if you want to cycle faster, and certain superfoods can really help you perform at your peak.

Here's The Cycling Bug's guide to the 5 best foods you can eat to maximise your rides, and increase your speed.

1. Salmon

Salmon is packed with Omega-3, which has many benefits for cyclists, including improving muscle function and lung health - both vital if you're to hit top speed. These healthy fats also help to decrease inflammation in the body, which is caused by intense exercise or injury. Salmon is an excellent source of protein for muscle repair and contains vitamins A, B and D. Try our Cycling Chef’s Salmon Teriyaki recipe.

I bought a blender and make smoothies out of anything & everything. My main superfoods are KALE & BEETROOT. (Not necessarily together). Mix 2 handfulls of kale, 1 large apple, 250 ml of coconut water, 1 kiwi fruit (whole). & 1scoop of SIS Diet protein powder. Blitz it all together in a blender (With a strainer attachment), and pour into a shaker bottle or large glass tumbler. Apparently it is known as a green smoothie, and is excellent for weight loss, an tastes really nice. You can add as many herbs and spices to this drink as you wish. Salute`.

Just discovered my juice has 3 of these:

Handful of spinach, small raw beetroot, large handful frozen blueberries, 1 banana and a bit of ginger. Whizz together with some water in a good blender. It tastes good, honestly!

By 2048 we would have drained the oceans of fish. You can get omega 3 in plant foods. You don't have to eat salmon. Plus it has an extremely high level of mercury, you say eat berries to control weight, but what about the high level of fat in salmon? Saturated included.

I love beetroot in all it's forms but just couldn't get to grips with Beet It shots - made me gag everytime I've tried them.   Great in juices though!

I use turkey in cooking so much more than I used to. It's delicious and so versatile.
