Look past Trek, Specialized, Cannondale.  Check out the less known brands of Ribble, Canyon, Focus, Planetx, Rocco. You will get much more for your buck!

I agree John, I have a planetx rt57, great spec, would not have got so much for that money with a more well known brand.

I'd highly recommend Raleigh Militis Race - total bike weight of 9kgs and good quality spec. Certainly a better ride than a Pinarello FP1 and considerably lighter

Bike clubs and small personalised shops, are good places to pick up a reasonable second hand bike, I got a Mendiz full carbon with a rotor chainring, campagnolo gearset...

I'd highly recommend kinetic-one. Just had a custom road bike made to suit me. It's stunning and only 14.9lbs, high spec too. I couldn't ask for more. That's my bike featured on their website. Fantastic service from Andy Morgan, his attention to detail and the rider's physiology and requirements is second to none. You won't get anywhere near this spec for £2350!!
