Ive looked at getting a turbo trainer too … need to have one for when my other half works away as I don't want to go out riding on my own in the dark after work, so a turbo trainer sounds exactly what I need …..just no idea what Im looking for !!!!! :)

Hi, a lot of people seem to really hate turbo trainers, but at this time of year when it's dark & cold & miserable out on the road I think  they're a good way ( if somewhat boring, unless you can set it up near the telly! ) of maintaining general fitness & leg strength. There are a lot of comments in various places saying that they don't simulate actual riding scenarios, but let's be honest, it's a trainer not a simulator. I recently bought this one: - BDBikesTM Bicycle, Bike Magnetic Turbo Trainer - Single Speed Variable Resistance Exercise Bike from Amazon. I previously had an air resistance version, but my god was it noisy. Probably ok if you have a garage, but deffo not for indoor use! The magnetic one is much quieter & I find it perfectly ok in front of the telly watching some virtual rides on youtube. It would be even quieter if I had a slick trainer tyre fitted, more tread equals more noise. I think if you wanted to use any trainer with a mountain bike you have to resort to the garage & play some music through earphones! Hope this has been of some help. Happy cycling :)

My wife does pay attention, she bought me a Turbo for Christmas, well gave me the money and I got it. I went for a magnetic one and keep it in the garage. I have downloaded about 10 videos and put them on the tablet. They are Fat burning ones, and long ride ones too.
I love it, been doing most rides on the turbo due to the weather and time restrictions with every day life.
I got one of Amazon for about £50 and its hugely addictive
