My 2014 Challenges!

My 2014 Challenges!

I have been inspired to write this blog after reading a post from Ordinary Cycling Girl. Challenges seem much more attainable once put on to “paper”, but unlike the ambitious one I have no hope of getting 12 done! With it being March and therefore 10 months left in the year, I thought ten would be a nice round number. One a month makes perfect sense, until you come to think of them that is!

Not to pad this out in any way I also wanted to make sure I included goals that aren’t necessarily specific to cycling. I find exercise and general happiness go hand in hand for me, but this can lead to being caught in a vicious cycle (no pun intended). If I don’t make the effort to exercise then I get lazier (and grumpier) which in turn means I am even less likely to pull on the lycra! Which leads me nicely in to point 1...

1. Find an appropriate work/life balance – Easier said than done, but by this I just mean setting time aside each week for me (firstly), but also friends and family. Including seeing my folks once a week and playing a weekly 5 a side game with the lads!

Moving on from all that now and back to cycling...

2. Enter Tour de Mon Bach (40 miles) again and smash the spots off last year’s time (02:30:25) – Really well organised event in a beautiful part of the country, what is not to love?

3. Try and find a time trial to enter, nothing too fancy but would be good fun I think. Probably not with the all in one helmet and goggles contraption though!

4. Get out on my bike more! – This is a big one for me, I have not logged enough miles so far this year and have to get more out of it!

5. Attempt a coast to coast ride, Whitehaven to Tynemouth and would definitely appreciate any further information on it. Have any of my fellow bugs tried it?

6. Buy a new bike. I don’t think I need to add any more to this, who out of us wouldn’t want another bike?!

7. Register for and complete a charity ride. I have definitely been persuaded by the emails received about London to Paris and London to Amsterdam rides! Sadly they are coming round a bit too quickly for me this year.

8. Write and read more blogs. Twitter is making me lazy when it comes to reading adn writing about all things cycling, it is far too easy to pick a headline and leave it there. Must learn!

9. Survive the Great North Swim – for some reason I thought entering this would be a good idea...we’ll see!

10. I was really struggling with a number ten, so I have entered the Gran Fondo Conwy which is a month away! Hopefully this will be the kickstart my 2014 training needs!

2014 is going to be a big year based on this list; out of all those things I am most excited about number 6. Typical!

Would love to hear what my fellow Bugs are planning for this year, I am sure we could all use a little bit of moral support.

It's your fault I did it! You're right though, having challenges put down does help. As does reading other peoples. It's going to be a good year :)
