The Cycling Bug’s beginner guide to Cycling Clubs

Groups of cyclists concentrating hard, speeding past in one big blur of shiny metal and lycra can seem a bit intimidating, and the prospect of joining a cycling club can be a daunting one.

But don’t be put off. Find out more about cycling clubs below and pluck up the courage to go along on a local club ride.

If the club’s any good you’ll come away more in love with cycling than before you went, and assured 100 per cent that there’s nothing scary about lycra.

I would also like to join a club as a newbie - like Kes stated - nothing too serious to begin with!  I'm in the B45 area (Rubery) of Birmingham so if there is anyone up for partnering up for a spin now and then please get in touch.

Would love to join a cycling group. Do not want a serious racing, lycra clad club but a beginners group to improve not only my fitness but my cycling too.

I live in Leicester  (LE4) and although we appear to have quite a few, how do I find the best one suited to me?

I've joined beginner running clubs and they weren't in any way shape or form geared towards those that never  ran before.  I'm afraid this could happen again with a cycling club yet I don't want to go out alone.

Any ideas?

Went out with a cycling club for the first time on Sunday. They were friendly. I was the slowest rider but they waited at every junction so no way I could get lost. It was a great way to to cycle a new route without fear of getting lost. Also encouraged me to cycle further and higher than I have before. Now thinking of joining although I want to keep enjoying cycling and not get competitive. Thanks to Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers.
